Abstract
This study analyses the lipid profile of obese before and three years after gastric bypass. Charts of 40 patients were reviewed evaluating the levels of cholesterol (TC), cholesterol linked to high-density lipoprotein (HDL), cholesterol linked to low-density lipoprotein (LDL), trigliycerides (TG) and body mass index (BMI) pre-operatively and three years after the operation. The levels of TC, HDL, LDL and TG were 202,35 mg%, 42,60 mg%, 124,87 mg% and 165,18% respectively. Three years on average after the operation, the levels of TC dropped 15,66%, TG 52,17%, LDL 15,1%, and HDL raised 21,92%. The lipid profile normalized in 76,5% of patients. There was a reduction of BMI of 36,7%. The pre-operative prevalence of dyslipidemia is high in morbid obese patients. There is a significant improvement in the lipid profile and significant reduction of BMI three years after the gastric bypass.
