Abstract:
The nutritional principle for persons with diabetes mellitus 1 (DM1) is not very different to a healthy alimentation (HENZEN, 2015). In this sense, we can confirm that there is no special diet for diabetics. However, even there are no particular nutritional restrictions, a healthy alimentation and the counting of carbohydrates are fundamental for the nutritional monitoring of DM1. Researches show that the more diabetics know about alimentation, the better is the level of glycohaemoglobin (HbA1c).
A big challenge of nutritional treatment of children and teenagers is to create a mechanism that allows the educational process to be individualized, playful and interactive. The nutrionist is the intermediary of the learning process, contributing this way to the planning and the daily alimentation control of diabetics.
This article approaches some pedagogical proceedings and didactical instruments used in the nutritional therapy of the DM1, in the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Dept. of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology.
