ABSTRACT
Evaluate the nutritional status and metabolic changes in bearers of HIV-1 in use of TARV assisted at the clinic of a University Hospital, Belém/PA. The variables collected from 65 patients were: weight, height, arm circumference (AC), triceps skinfold (TSF), waist circumference (WC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. Both sexes showed predominance of normal weight according to IMC. The values of AC were higher in the men (p <0.0001) and TSF and WC were higher in the women (p <0.035 and p <0.0001, respectively). Hemoglobin and hematocrit presented levels below the reference values in both sexes. In the Lipid profile, the HDL was lower than recommended in both groups and triglycerides above the normal only in the masculine sex. Anemia and dyslipidemia are common findings in this group, being the important nutritional intervention to treat nutritional and metabolic deviations related to the own infection and the antiretroviral use.
