ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to perform microbiological testing in mineral waters marketed in the city of Teresina- Pi, and in the city of Caxias - MA. Samples from eight marks were studied. For analyzes of total coliforms and faecal coliforms/E. coli, identifying and quantifying a possible presence of coliforms at 45° C (Thermotolerant) with the use of Broth Escherichia coli (EC) at 35° C (total) using the broth lauryl sulphate Triptose (LST). For all the samples of total coliforms, it was found that in eight of the samples (100 %), five (62.5 %) showed contamination, but negative results for fecal coliforms/E. coli. The analyzes included research of microorganisms, total and faecal coliforms, through standard techniques defined by the competent institutions. Results indicated that the samples were not free of coliforms, so, being inappropriate for consumption
