abstract
Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by the general exocrine glands disfunction. The most common clinical manifestations are chronic lung obstruction, pancreatic insufficiency, masculine and feminine infertility and high sweat chloride and sodium concentrations. This study approaches the relationship between the nutrition therapy and the improvement of the quality of life and increase in patients’ survival. The periodic nutritional evaluation is very important because these patients generally present growth failure and low weight for age. Nutritional intervention is essential to improve the treatment response and correct the disease consequences by carefully observing proteins, lipids and fat-soluble vitamins intake. A treatment has been presenting good results and it may be described in three pillars: specific nutrition therapy, lung physiotherapy and drug intervention. Therefore, a multidisciplinary attention is necessary to an effective patient monitoring.
