ABSTRACT: In recent years we notice a large increase in the consumption of supplements and various studies that relate to body image. This study aimed to correlate the consumption of dietary supplements and body image in gyms goers, in order to observe the influence of body image on the use of supplements. For that questionnaires were administered in 35 gyms goers of the city of São Paulo, of both sexes, mean age 25.8 ± 7.93 years. The results that were 51.4% (n = 18) participants are in a pre-obesity is assessed by BMI, 44% (n = 16) make use of more than two supplements, 83% (n = 29) consume daily and 63% (n = 22) ingested before and after training, 94% (n = 33) noted increased yield, 54% (n = 19) began consuming the supplement advised by personal trainer, evaluating the image Tiggemann body by scale-Barret and Wilson, 1998, where 43% (n = 15) self rated with the representation of Figure 5 (eutrophic). In this study it was observed that 83% of respondents consume the supplement daily often unnecessarily. Was possible to assess the intake of supplement is often done with a lack of guidance from a qualified professional for an individualized assessment, the nursing professional.
