The incidence of eating disorders has increased over the last 30-40 years. Approximately 0.5 percent to 1.0 percent of late adolescent or adult women meet criteria for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. Approximately 1.0 percent to 2.0 percent of late adolescent and adult women meet criteria for the diagnosis of bulimia nervosa. Treatment for ED's is multidisciplinary with nutrition therapy being a major component.
This interactive workshop will use case studies and lecture to review the etiology of, treatment for and the role of nutrition therapy in the most common ED's, as well as night eating syndrome, female athlete triad and ED's in men.
Upon completion of this workshop the attendee will be able to;
1. Outline the etiology of anorexia and bulimia nervosa
2. Identify the key components of nutrition therapy for anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder
3. Describe how three factors involved in the female athlete triad
4. List medical complications of anorexia and bulimia

Master in Public Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans.
